Center for MicroElectromechanical Systems (CMEMS-UMinho), Universidade do Minho

The presentation is about introduction to the main concepts of the microtechnologies and the microsystems, namely its definitions, history, advantages of going to micro scale as well as the materials and their properties, when used in microsystems (including silicon, polymers and thin-films).

Further, it will be provided information about opportunities of the microsystems and their applications, as well as the microsensors and microactuators mostly used in medical and micromechanical applications. The presentation finishes with an overview of the microfluidic systems used for biomedical and biotechnology applications.
